Ferrari 365 GT4 BB - Spirited Driver by Paolo Lekai

I bought the Ferrari 365 Berlinetta Boxer primarily because the car was my dream car when I was 10. I was in primary school in Japan at the time and Japanese economy was beginning to boom and we began to see the so-called 70s supercars in Japanese showrooms and roads. There was also a very popular comic book called Circuit Wolf which was very popular among kids my age in the late 1970s.

Ford Escort RS2000 - Tarmac Rally by Paolo Lekai

Growing up I was really into anything with a motor, not just cars but planes and motorcycles as well. As I got older I became fascinated with rally and touring car racing in Europe and made it a priority to watch as many races/rallys as I could. This would eventually fuel my lifelong passion for motorsports and cars. I remember the first car I ever drove was our family’s Mercedes 190e with a manual gearbox. My dad took me to a backroad and allowed me to drive it, this was an important moment in my life that would shape the way I decide to live it.

Lamborghini Miura S - The Original Supercar by Paolo Lekai

My dad grew up in Chicago and experienced his automotive coming of age in the 60s. He quickly established himself as a sportscar person for some reason which in the midwest was pretty unusual in the 1960s because everyone was into American cars. In those days in the midwest if the car wasn’t American it was just a foreign car it didn’t matter if it was a Volvo, VW or a Ferrari. So he had a lot of Triumphs and Jaguars and started driving Porsches and stuff like that. He bought the Miura--well if I’m honest he probably bought one because Miles Davis had one. His dad was a Jazz musician and so my dad spent a lot of time with Jazz musicians who are still known today in his youth. As a child he would spend time with Miles David playing trumpet together sometimes. Miles had a Miura and a Ferrari 275Gtb4.

Fibersteel 550 Spyder by Paolo Lekai

I really owe my passion for cars to my neighbor growing up. I remember when he was in High School he bought a 1973 Datsun 510 and I would spend my early teenage years in his garage. In fact, the first fabrication job I did was creating a center console for his 510.

So when I was 14 I went to the L.A. Auto Show I saw my first Porsche Speedster. Immediately I thought the proportions were a bit off but I loved the chop top look with the low windshield and the little window you could barely stick your elbow out of. I thought that was awesome.

By the time I turned 15 I saved up a few bucks and I bought my first car which was a 1965 VW Squareback. My intention was to obviously chop the top; and I did so. Made it right hand drive, and really just fell in love working on the car and came to appreciate the German engineering and simplicity of the aircooled design. It was a great experience.

JPS Sharkwerks 964 by Paolo Lekai

Behrouz discovered his love for cars as a child in Tehran, Iran thanks to a set of diecast cars. One of his favorites was a 1971 Lotus 72 T Formula 1 car that wore the famous John Player Special Livery. Made famous in the 70s by Lotus and Colin Chapman introduced a car that dominated the world of Formula 1. The car was so successful that it competed in not one or two, but six different seasons from 70 to 75, winning 20 races along the way.

The other car to capture his imagination was a bright red 911 that sported a clear back lid that allowed him to see the engine and its cooling fan spin around as he drove it. It's not hard to see how big of an impression these two cars left on him as a child through his John Player Special Porsche 964.

Sharkwerks Cayman GT4 by Paolo Lekai

Phil ordered his 2017 Porsche Cayman GT4 straight from the factory in Stuttgart to his liking. After putting around 20,000 miles on the car and crossing the Beartooth Pass in Wyoming he felt it was time to unlock all the performance Porsche left on the table. He remembered a friend telling him about the folks at Sharkwerks so he decided to give them a call. After speaking with the owner, Alex, he was confident they were the right folks to help him achieve his goal.

After spending the morning driving from his home in Carmel up and down PCH, I can honestly say Sharkwerks produced one hell of a car. The lightened flywheel allowed the engine to rev freely and its Cargraphic exhaust was like a symphony echoing off the cliff sides.
